We convert VHS to digital in two simple steps, so you can rewatch those moments anytime, on your phone, laptop or TV. No more digging out the old player. No more worrying if the tape will still work.

What you can expect from us.

Your memories are irreplaceable - this is how we'll take care of them

We only use professional-grade equipment, which we keep well maintained, to get the best possible quality from your tapes.
Each tape goes through a careful process: we inspect it first and make any needed repairs. For VHS and VHS-C with mould, we clean them before transfer. After the initial transfer, we check the quality. If there are any issues, we'll transfer the tape again using different machines and settings, choosing the best version for your digital files.
Our success rate speaks for itself - around 95% of tapes are digitised with good picture quality, and over 99% of tapes are successfully transferred regardless of their condition.

FAQs

Q. Why should I convert VHS to digital?
The main reason most people convert their VHS tapes is because the tapes naturally degrade, meaning the playback quality gets worse and worse, eventually leading to the tapes becoming unplayable, meaning the moments and memories they contain are lost forever. The other reason is because most people no longer have a VCR player, so they have no way to watch the videos back anyway. Digitised VHS tapes on USB sticks, DVD or stored digitally on the cloud keep your memories safe, accessible, and easy to share.
Q. How do you convert VHS to digital?
We convert VHS tapes to digital by using professional VCRs and high-spec capture equipment. Each tape is played back in real time, recorded frame by frame, and converted into a clean digital file. From there, we can send your videos back on USB, DVD, or in your own private digital storage ready for you to stream or download, whatever suits you best.

No cheap machines. No shortcuts. Just reliable equipment and expert care from start to finish. If your tape's damaged or worn, we'll do our best to clean it up and get it working again before converting.
Q. Why not just use a cheap USB converter and do it at home?
You can - but you'll likely get poor quality, dropped frames, and tracking problems. Worse, if something goes wrong mid-transfer, you could damage the tape permanently. We use broadcast-grade machines for a reason. When it's your only copy of your child's first steps, or your only footage of a grandparent, it's not worth cutting corners.
Q. Can I play the digital files on my phone or smart TV?
Yes, that's the main benefit of digitising your tapes. We convert everything to either DVD or MP4 video files (and provide these on either USB stick, or online storage) which work on pretty much any device from Smartphones to Smart TVs. You can choose to convert your tapes to DVDs, USB sticks, or cloud download depending on what suits you.
Q. What types of VHS tapes can you convert?
We convert all the main variants: VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS and even Betamax, as well as Camcorder tapes. Whether it's home movies, weddings, or taped-off-the-TV moments from the '90s, we can transfer them to digital formats that actually work today. We don't just convert VHS of course! Please see our menu at the top of the website to see our full list of conversions and formats.
Q. My VHS tapes are over 30 years old - will they still work?
In most cases, yes. VHS tapes do degrade, but we've successfully converted tapes from the early '80s which had been stored well. Even if they look a bit rough, we can often clean and stabilise them enough to recover the footage.
Q. What kind of quality can I expect?
We extract the maximum possible quality from your tapes using high-end playback decks and capture gear. It won't look like 4K - but it'll be as clean and stable as VHS gets. Better than what you'd get from a cheap VHS to USB converter or old player at home.
Q. What if the tape is damaged?
We regularly repair snapped tapes, cracked casings, tangled reels - even mouldy tape. Our team handles these manually, using specialised tools. If the tape can be saved, we'll save it. Please note however that not all tapes can be saved. We'll get in touch with you once we've established the condition and whether your tape can be repaired.
Q. I found some unlabelled VHS tapes - can you check what's on them?
Yes. Many of our customers don't know what's on their old tapes. We can preview them and either label the footage before converting, or just transfer everything so you can discover it yourself digitally. And if the tape is blank, we just return it to you with no charges.
Q. Will I lose the sound when converting old VHS to digital?
No. If the tape has audio, it'll come through with the video. That includes mono, stereo, and even linear vs hi-fi audio tracks - our decks are set up to capture the best available source.
Q. How do you handle tapes that have tracking issues?
We use professional VCRs with digital timebase correction, which smooth out playback problems like wobbles, jitter, or rolling lines. These are the kind of decks designed for broadcast use - not the cheap ones sold for home transfer kits.
Q. Can I get more than one copy of the final footage?
Yes - easily. We can provide multiple USBs, DVDs or cloud downloads. Whether it's for family, backups, or gifts, we'll duplicate the files as needed. We also keep your conversions
Q. What's the difference between USB and DVD formats?
USB gives you a digital video file you can copy, share, or edit, playable on a huge multitude of devices from laptops to TVs and even many car stereos. DVDs are more plug-and-play, especially for older TVs or non-tech-savvy relatives, and can be played on any DVD player of course, as well as on games consoles and some computers. Many customers order both a DVD and a USB copy.
Q. Can I edit the videos after they're converted to digital?
Yes. Once you've got the digital file, it's yours to do whatever you like with. If you're feeling techy, you can load it into some video editing software and add titles, trim awkward moments or even make a highlight reel. We will remove any segments of video which are just a black screen with no audio for you.
Q. Do you improve the video or just copy it?
We don't add artificial filters or fake sharpening. But we do clean the tapes, stabilise playback, and use hardware with built-in enhancement features like timebase correction. The result? A stable, clean digital copy of the original tape - warts and all.
Q. Is it safe to send my tapes in the post?
Yes, it is very safe. We use tracked and signed Royal Mail Tracked 48 delivery both ways, and all tapes are logged on arrival. We treat every tape like it's the only copy in the world - because often, it is.
Q. Will you send my tapes back?
Yes. We return every original item after conversion, along with your new digital copies, all by Royal Mail Tracked 48 fully insured postage. If any of your tapes needed a repair, we'll let you know what was done.
Q. Do I need to rewind my tapes before sending?
No. We handle all that here using our own VCR decks. In fact, old home players can sometimes damage tapes during rewinding - so it's better to leave it to us.
Q. How long does the process take?
It depends on how many tapes you're sending. But unlike some services, we're based in the UK and we work fast! So a single VHS, Cine Film or Camcorder tape converted to digital usually takes just 1 working day to process once we receive it. Much larger batches can take 1–2 weeks. Either way, we'll keep you updated and email you when it's ready.
Q. Can you convert American or foreign VHS tapes to digital?
Yes. We handle NTSC, PAL, and SECAM formats. So if your tapes were recorded abroad - or sent over by relatives - we've got the right multi-standard equipment to play and convert them properly.
