What you can expect from us.

Your memories are irreplaceable - this is how we’ll take care of them

We only use professional-grade equipment, which we keep well maintained, to get the best possible quality from your tapes.

Each tape goes through a careful process: we inspect it first and make any needed repairs. For VHS and VHS-C tapes with mould, we clean them before transfer. After the initial transfer, we check the quality. If there are any issues, we'll transfer the tape again using different machines and settings, choosing the best version for your digital files.

Our success rate speaks for itself - around 95% of tapes are digitised with good picture quality, and over 99% of tapes are successfully transferred regardless of their condition.

FAQs

Q. How do I convert Hi8 tapes to DVD?
To convert Hi8 tapes to DVD, you need a Hi8 camcorder or playback deck, an analog to digital converter (ADC), as well as a computer and suitable software. Note, this can be expensive and is only really cost effective if you’re making a large number of conversions.

It’s far better value to pay a converting company such as ourselves to transfer your Hi8 to DVD. If you really want to try it yourself, firstly connect your Hi8 camcorder or playback deck to an analog-to-digital converter. Use video capture software on your computer to record the footage from the Hi8 tape. Edit the captured video if needed, and then export it in a suitable format. Use DVD authoring software to create menus, chapters, and other navigation elements for your DVD. Finally, burn the edited video onto a blank DVD using a DVD burner on your computer.
Q. What equipment do I need to convert Hi8 tapes to DVD?
You will need a Hi8 camcorder or playback deck, an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), a computer with video capture and editing software, blank DVDs, a DVD burner, and DVD authoring software.
Q. Is there a professional service to convert Hi8 to DVD?
Yes, professional services like Digital Converters specialise in converting Hi8 tapes to DVD. They have the expertise, equipment, and experience to ensure high-quality conversions.
Q. How can I improve the quality of Hi8 tape to DVD conversions?
To enhance quality, ensure your Hi8 tapes are in good condition and properly cleaned before conversion. Use a high-quality analog-to-digital converter for capturing. Pay attention to the capture settings, such as resolution and frame rate, to match the original quality of the Hi8 tapes.

However, our Hi8 to DVD service uses the very best professional equipment available, giving a much better conversion quality than home equipment and software is capable of.
Q. Which software is best for converting Hi8 tapes to DVD?
Software options like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, and Sony Vegas are commonly used for video capture and editing. DVD authoring software like Nero Burning ROM or Roxio Creator can be used for creating the final DVD.
Q. How long does it take to convert Hi8 tapes to DVD?
The time required depends on factors such as the length of the Hi8 tapes, the speed of your capture equipment, any necessary editing, and the complexity of DVD authoring. If you use our service, our turnaround time is usually around 1 week, but obviously this can take longer when the order is bigger.
Q. What are the benefits of converting Hi8 tapes to DVD?
Converting Hi8 tapes to DVD preserves your memories in a modern format that will last many years longer, makes playback easy, enables you to create menus and chapters for organised viewing, and ensures your content is stored in a more durable and accessible medium.
Q. Are there any special considerations for damaged Hi8 tapes?

We have vast experience in handling damaged tapes and can determine the best approach to salvaging the content, which we can normally achieve with no trouble. We are also able to improve the quality of both the original video and audio for you.
Q. Can I play the DVD on any DVD player after conversion?
Yes, DVDs created through the conversion process are designed to be compatible with all standard DVD players.
Q. How much does it cost to convert Hi8 to DVD?
Prices start at £14.99 per tape, but you could pay as little as £8.39 per tape if you order enough to get a discount for ordering in bulk.
Q. Do you add menus and chapters to the DVD during the conversion?
Yes, we create customised menus and chapters for easy navigation of your videos on the final DVD.
Q. Can I convert Hi8 tapes to digital formats other than DVD?
Yes, we can convert Hi8 tapes to digital formats such as Hi8 to USB too, which offers more flexibility in terms of storage and playback options.
Q. What storage options are best for preserving Hi8 tapes?
Store Hi8 tapes in a cool, dry, and stable environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and humidity. Use protective cases or sleeves to prevent physical damage. The same applies for your new DVDs.
Q. Is it possible to convert Hi8 tapes to DVD without losing quality?
While the conversion process involves analog-to-digital conversion, our advanced equipment and experience means quality is actually enhanced vs the original, rather than degraded. This is often not the case with DIY attempts to convert Hi8 to DVD.
